The field is designed so that it is possible to section it off into several smaller paddocks and at this time of year those paddocks serve to hold breeding groups. This can mean having rams on both sides of the fence. The double fencing which will eventually be filled by a hedge is to maintain some distance between the rams to prevent them hammering the fence. This does generally work well but it doesn't stop the rams pacing as can be seen by the well worn track along the edge of the fencing. With the rain we have had over the last few days spotting bred ewes is also not so hard as they are pretty muddy as are the rams!
The double barrier extends to the gates making sure that there is no possibility of finding a ram in the wrong paddock.
The rest is probably best left to the imagination but judging buy the low chuntering from the rams there is plenty of action day and night. Five months and counting.......:-)
